Department of Bacteriology and Virology
Department of Bacteriology and Virology began its journey by training medical and paramedical students in foundational microbiological sciences. At its inception, the department consisted of two core divisions: Parasitology and Bacteriology. Over time, evolving scientific priorities and emerging global health challenges led to a strategic expansion of its scope, culminating in its renaming as the Department of Bacteriology and Virology to reflect its deepened focus on bacterial and viral pathogens.
Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, relevant, and inspiring education and research in bacteriology and virology for undergraduate students, postgraduate scholars, medical students, and healthcare professionals seeking to advance their knowledge and skills in microbial sciences. We emphasize the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical applications to address real-world health challenges.
Currently, the Department of Bacteriology and Virology offers specialized training courses in clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular virology. We also support and collaborate on clinical and research projects aimed at understanding, diagnosing, and combating microbial pathogens. Our faculty is highly committed to advancing research in microbial pathogenesis, immunology, epidemiology, and novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. To enhance learning accessibility, we develop innovative teaching resources, including digital tools, virtual labs, and interactive platforms tailored to diverse audiences.
Collaboration lies at the heart of our success. We actively partner with the scientific community, public health organizations, and global research networks to implement impactful initiatives. These alliances are critical to addressing urgent health threats, such as antimicrobial resistance and viral outbreaks, while promoting equitable access to microbiological education across the country.
