Department of Biochemistry

At BMSU, the Biochemistry Department predominantly focuses on biomolecular mechanisms that underpin human health and pathology, as well as on leveraging biomolecular understanding for applications in synthetic biology and bioengineering. These themes are central to both our research endeavors and educational activities.

Teaching
The department’s vibrant research culture profoundly influences our teaching approach, reflected in high-quality instruction and strong student satisfaction. Results from the annual National Student Survey consistently demonstrate that our undergraduates report a very high level of satisfaction with their academic experience at BMSU. Furthermore, our excellence in teaching fosters successful transitions into professional life; our alumni and postgraduate students are highly regarded by employers for their solid foundation in biochemistry principles and their proficiency with quantitative biochemical techniques.

Research
Our investigative work spans from fundamental single-molecule studies of biomolecules and whole-cell imaging to research involving model organisms. The caliber of our research has been repeatedly acknowledged in Iran’s research assessment exercises, attesting to its high standard.
